Kris has been studying leatherworking in the Oltrarno for several years with Alicia Roca, a featured artist of the Artisan Quarter. Working side-by-side with Alicia she developed a genuine appreciation of the family’s generations-long legacy of artisans, and fell under the spell of the spirit of the Oltrarno. In discussions with Luciano and Tammara Leiva, the severity of the artisan’s situation during COVID became clear, as did the need for immediate help. Kris is proud to be the first of what we hope will be many Patrons of the Artisan Quarter.
Tammara came from Canada to study leatherworking in Florence with the idea of creating her own accessories for her dog Moog. This is when she met Luciano and the Florentine artisan community. After years of living in the Oltrarno and perfecting her leathercraft skills, they founded "Forza Leather Pet Accessories" combining Tammara's new vision, Luciano's know-how working with leather and of course, their unconditional love for pets.
After collaborating with many artisans and to overcome a common challenge, they wrote the first draft of the Artisan Quarter project. When Kris and her marketing skills and passion for the arts came onboard, the project became a reality.
